After nine year at Riot Games, the Executive Producer and Vice President of Riot MMO, Greg Street steps down. It was officially announced on March 7th, 2023.
Notwithstanding Greg Street left Riot, we know Greg will remain in the game development industry. Of course, we are certain he will not be continuing his role as Executive Producer and Vice President of the Riot MMO.
In several follow up tweets, Greg explain his decision was due to several personal and professional reasons. In particular, Greg lost his brother, as mentioned in a Tweet on December 11, 2022. Furthermore, he said his father does not have much longer to live. Naturally, Greg wants to be closer to his surviving family.
During Greg’s grievances, he had the time to reflect on the important of his family.
How Does this Affect the MMO
As a follow up, the co-founder of Riot Games, Marc Merrill touched on what this means for the Riot MMO. Marc stated Greg Street set up a strong direction for the game that the team is excited about. Still, they are in early development and patience will be required.
He belives whoever takes over the position will be position to succeed due to Greg’s groundwork.
Doubling back to Greg on the note, he believes it is the right time to pass the reins on to another person. We know Greg has been building up and onboarding for the Riot MMMO during his time as VP. Perhaps, Greg feels its an appropriate time to pass the torch because many executive positions have been filled. Regardless, Greg feels the Riot MMO is in good hands.
Lastly, Marc encouraged the best and brightest mind to apply for a position for the Riot MMO. This is a sign that Riot Games still plans on continuing development for the Riot MMO.
Closing Thoughts
Unfortunately, Greg Street steps down at Riot. Nonetheless, several Riot MMO employees tweeted shortly after the public departure. The general consensus was that Greg will be missed. During his nine years he has influenced many individuals. For example, Riot Tomukus views Greg as ‘an unimaginably talented and compassionate leader.’ Furthermore, Greg laid down an excellent foundation for the upcoming League MMO. Most importantly,
