The former Vice President and Executive of the Riot MMO, Greg Street made the announcement. As a result, fans were confident the tweet was legitimate. Then, Greg Street added that the unusual official announcement of the Riot MMO was strategic.
On February 22, 2021 Riot Games published a recruiting webpage. This page reinforced a Riot MMORPG was in production. Furthermore, the site indicated the upcoming game would be set in the League of Legends Universe, Runeterra. The Riot Games MMO will be set in Runeterra. Runeterra has had substantial worldbuilding over the past decade. Riot Games fans can look forward to a new genre in a world they are familiar with. Many of Riot Games’ such as, Legends of Runeterra, League of Legends, Wild Rift, The Ruined King, and more are set in the Runeterra universe.
Details have been light as of late. We hope to hear more news from the Riot MMO team. Fortunately, Greg mentioned when the Riot MMO team is ready, they will publish a Riot Dev Blog post with a similar format as the Project L /dev: post.
