All Riot MMOFPS related job ads pointed to their temporary Bellevue office location. There, Riot employee work a hybrid schedule. Now, Riot Games is currently constructing a new permanent office on Mercer Island in King County, Seattle. The office is planned to be completed in Q1 2024. Of course, Riot’s LA office will remain the Global Headquarters where collaboration is centralized.

Riot Games states Seattle will include the following teams and more:

    • Esports
    • Games
    • Data
    • Core Infrastructure
    • Enterprise

What’s more, according to Mercer Island Reporter, Riot Games plans to employ over 400 Rioters in engineering, research and development, and live service games.

Riot’s Homage to Seattle Gaming Culture

Only a week before, Riot Games announced their new location. In the ‘Offices’ article Riot paid tribute to the significant influence game development in Seattle has had on the industry. A few examples included the spawn of Microsoft, Xbox, and Valve and their works.

In this Project F video, the narrative continues. During the video, the Riot MMOFPS developers take turns discussing what makes the gaming culture in Seattle unique. Here’s a summary of what each of the Riot MMOFPS Project T devs had to say:

    • Ilana Franklin (Software Engineer)

Since joining Riot Games at the Seattle office, Ilana has engaged with gaming culture more than ever. She finds Riot’s Seattle Project T staff is more inclined to play games in their spare time.

    • Jami Lukins (UX Design Lead)

Jami adds to Ilana’s point by mentioned she herself enjoys tabletopping with old co-workers, game developers and others. Later on she touches upon Riot’s Youth Programs that help at-risk groups to get access cost-prohibitive computer equipment and encourage careers in game development.

    • Ben Platnick (VFX Artist)

Ben notes many of the gamers in Seattle are also video game developers. Not only that but there’s a phenomenon where the gamers play each others games, in a quite involved manner.

    • Jacob Snyder (Staff Software Engineer)

Riot MMOFPS Project T employee, Jacob, is still thrown off from the thought of developing video games being a viable career.

    • Elan Gleiber

Elan reflects on a moment in his final year of high school where a presentation was given to discourage careers in gaming. It turns out Seattle is providing just that for Elan Gleiber.

    • Shen-Ming Spurgeon

Lastly, Shen-Ming contrasts the perception of video games in prior years to today. He makes the point that the negative stigma has subsides dramatically in recent years.

By the sounds of it, Seattle will be an invaluable location for Riot Games to continue develop many of their their operations. Their Bellevue location has been steadily growing. In addition, VALORANT has been hiring in not only LA but in Bellevue as well. With the success a VALORANT, Riot is looking for more support. Naturally, it’s time for Riot put down some roots in Seattle.

There are a few other interesting advantages of this office location. With VALORANT and Riot MMOFPS Project T both being FPS games, Riot Games can tap into the Washington talent from notable game developer 343 Studios, of the Halo franchise.

Moreover, with VALORANT talent already established in Washington, presumably, Riot can transfer employees from VALORANT to Project as needed considering some of the similar game requirements.

We are looking forward to watching Riot’s growth in Mercer Bay. As always, stay tuned for more Riot MMOFPS Project T news.
